Agfa launches DX-S CR unit

Agfa HealthCare of Mortsel, Belgium, is launching a new computed radiography unit, DX-S, at this week's Journées Françaises de Radiologie (JFR) meeting in Paris, France.

DX-S incorporates two new Agfa CR technologies, DirectriX and Scanhead. DirectriX is a needle-based detector technology, while Scanhead uses new line-to-line CR simulation and light collection technology.

Agfa claims that the technologies working together give DX-S increased image quality and throughput, with lower waiting times for CR cassettes and faster access to digital images. DX-S also was designed specifically for decentralized and in-room use in general radiography, pediatric, and emergency room environments.

DX-S features a nominal throughput of 120 plates an hour, with a throughput of 180 plates per hour after patient demographic data release, according to the company.

In other Agfa CR news, the company said that it has installed its CR Radiotherapy Solution at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, KY. The hospital is the first major healthcare facility in the U.S. to use the system in a radiation therapy department. The system has also been installed at Centre Hospital Notre-Dame (CHUM) in Quebec, according to Agfa.
