Hologic grows revenue in fiscal Q1

Revenue from additional product lines helped boost growth for women's imaging vendor Hologic in its first quarter of fiscal year 2009 (end-December 27, 2008).

The Bedford, MA-based firm achieved a 15% gain in revenue to $429.2 million, compared with $371.4 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2008.

Hologic cited the inclusion of revenue from the diagnostics, surgical, and MammoSite product lines acquired in its merger with Cytyc in October 2007, compared with 10 weeks in the first quarter of fiscal 2008, as the primary reason for the revenue growth.

The company also recorded a $12.5 million, or 34%, increase in service and other revenue primarily related to sales of its Selenia full-field digital mammography system and revenue of $8.5 million from the acquisition of Third Wave in July 2008.

Net income reached $48 million, compared with a net loss of $358.6 million in the previous fiscal year's first quarter. First-quarter fiscal 2009 results included charges of $42.5 million and $2.1 million for the amortization of intangibles relating to the Cytyc merger and the Third Wave acquisition, respectively.

Hologic also projected revenue of approximately $1.625 billion to $1.675 billion for fiscal year 2009.
