In this scientific session, researchers from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center will present their Web-based multimodality case files platform for mobile devices.

The project aimed to bring teaching files up to speed with mobile technology, presenter Dr. Jason Balkman said.

"I believe radiologists should be able to export entire studies to the cloud so that their cases can be immediately scrolled and zoomed on any touchscreen in the world," Balkman told AuntMinnie.com. "Breast imaging serves as a great feasibility study for such technology because of its wide range of modalities. If breast MRI, 3D kinetics, tomosynthesis, ultrasound, and full-field digital mammography can be represented on a mobile touchscreen with image quality and usability comparable to a PACS, it can be done for any imaging subspecialty."

As more trainees utilize their handheld devices for educational purposes, there is a need to develop and adapt teaching tools for mobile technology, he said.

"Mobile and cloud technology can combine to create next-generation teaching files that rival traditional learning at the PACS workstation," Balkman said.
