Dear AuntMinnie Member,
The market for transcription services products is healthy, according to a new report we're featuring in our Healthcare IT Digital Community by senior editor Erik L. Ridley.
Nearly half of U.S. sites surveyed in a recent study planned to buy new transcription systems, as many facilities are laying plans for how they are going to capture physician documentation to meet meaningful use requirements for federal stimulus funding.
While the transcription services market is dominated by two firms, healthcare facilities are considering many companies as they make their purchasing plans. Find out who they are by clicking here.
Breast MRI helps plan DCIS surgery
In other news, we continue our coverage of this week's American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) meeting with a story by associate editor Kate Madden Yee on the utility of breast MRI in planning surgery for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).
Researchers from Elizabeth Wende Breast Care used breast MRI to assess the extent of cancer, finding that it matched surgical pathology results 87% of the time. The modality also found abnormalities that required further attention in many cases. Click here to learn more.
In another ARRS story, researchers from Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu reported on their creation of 3D models from CT scans using a novel 3D printing technique. The technology is preferred by some neurosurgeons, who favor holding a tangible object in their hands over even high-resolution 3D images on a medical display. Check it out by clicking here.
