Journal of the American Medical Association
on virtual colonoscopy’s effectiveness -- or lack of same -- was, if anything, predictable. A research team led by a gastroenterologist found that, surprisingly enough, virtual colonoscopy conducted by inexperienced radiologists using old equipment and outdated techniques did not compare to the gold standard of conventional colonoscopy.

Survey finds most small-bowel exams are substandard

An unusual survey of radiology practices has found that most U.S. facilities are still doing small-bowel follow-through (SBFT) exams. However, only 15% are performing the studies as recommended by the American College of Radiology, raising medical as well as legal concerns.
