Allowing children to play with a toy MRI scanner made of Lego before undergoing the exam reduces their anxiety and the need for sedation.
The toy includes a scanner, a patient bed, a waiting room, a scanning room, staff minifigures, and medical accessories, according to the Lego Group. The company has donated more than 10,000 of the sets to hospitals around the world, and more than a million children have used them, the foundation said. Research conducted by the Lego Group found that 96% of survey participants said the model mitigates children's anxiety, and 46% reported that it reduced the need for sedation.

The sets are not available for sale, the foundation said, but are donated to hospitals through the LEGO Group's Social Responsibility team's partners, including Fairy Bricks, Starlight Children's Foundation, United Way, and Ai You.
