The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has cited McGill University Health Centre in Montreal for deficiencies in its nuclear medicine department's radiation safety and worker training programs.
According to a February 11 announcement, CNSC is requiring that McGill take the following steps:
- Provide a plan of corrective actions to address all identified deficiencies
- Review its radiation safety officer's responsibilities and ensure that he or she can perform all of the duties
- Analyze the implementation of the radiation protection program to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and worker training to ensure all employees attain and maintain a sufficient level of competency
- Examine all locations of licensed activity at the health center to verify compliance with regulatory requirements and correct all items of noncompliance
McGill has until March 13 to comply with CNSC's requests.
