MDS Nordion inks licensing deal

Canadian medical isotope supplier MDS Nordion has signed a licensing agreement with NTP Radioisotopes, a subsidiary of South African Nuclear Energy Corporation. NTP will serve as a contract supplier to the Kanata, Ontario-based firm for yttrium-90 (Y-90), which is used in radioimmunotherapy treatments.

NTP has also received a license to use MDS Nordion’s Y-90 production technology to produce and market Y-90 under its own brand in countries outside of Europe and North America. The partnership with NTP will create an additional supply of Y-90 radiochemicals to MDS Nordion, which maintains Y-90 generators in Fleurus, Belgium.
