SNM expands services into accreditation, testing

On-site inspections will be part of a new practice accreditation program sponsored by the Society of Nuclear Medicine. The SNM will also offer proficiency testing to its members.

During on-site accreditation visits, physicians and scientists will review an array of areas, including imaging, radiopharmaceutical services, and film review. Many similar accrediting programs rely on mailed submissions, according to the SNM.

The society is banking on a two-year extension of a proficiency testing contract signed in fall 1999 with the Department of Veterans Affairs. That $71,000 contract will be completed when a final report is delivered to the VA in April 2000.
