An upgrade to the vendor's Biograph Vision PET/CT scanner, Biograph Vision.X produces a time of flight (TOF) of 178 picoseconds (ps) and features Siemens' Optiso Ultra Dynamic Range (UDR) detector technology. The silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) employed in the UDR detectors enable the use of 3.2 x 3.2-mm lutetium oxyorthosilicate (LSO) crystal elements. These small LSO crystals, which are completely covered by SiPMs, yield higher spatial resolution than larger crystals, according to Siemens.

Vision.X offers 48-mm3 volumetric resolution and 178 ps of temporal resolution, facilitating a 20% improvement in TOF compared with current state-of-the-art technologies, Siemens said. This performance gain can improve patient throughput, as well as lower patient radiation exposure and radiotracer cost, according to the firm.

In addition, Vision.X includes the firm's AIDAN AI platform, which aims to enhance operational efficiency and accelerate patient workflow, Siemens said. What's more, the scanner also includes a 78-cm bore and can fit into any room that houses any other Biograph Vision PET/CT system.

Currently pending U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance, Vision.X is not yet commercially available in any country. Current Biograph Vision customers will be able to receive a field upgrade to Vision.X once it's available.
