Quantum Surgical acquires NeuWave Medical

Quantum Surgical has acquired NeuWave Medical, a medical device company that produces microwave ablation technology used in percutaneous ablations.

Quantum Surgical, which specializes in minimally invasive robotic-assisted cancer treatment, said that the acquisition will expand its existing Epione robotic platform, which assists physicians in performing percutaneous tumor ablations for early-stage tumors.

The acquisition supports Quantum Surgical’s aim of widening access to robotic-assisted tumor ablation treatments to reduce cancer mortality, the company said.

Under the deal, both companies will operate as subsidiaries of Precision IO Group, a newly-created parent company. According to the firms, the group seeks to become a leader in the interventional radiology industry, with a strong focus on precision and remote procedures.

Kurt Azarbarzin has been named CEO of Precision IO Group.
