Scottsdale, AZ-based outpatient medical imaging provider SimonMed Imaging has launched a dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan that combines bone density and bone quality analysis for early detection of osteoporosis.
Offered in partnership with Swiss imaging software developer Medimaps Group, DEXA with trabecular bone score (TBS) integrates U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared software into standard DEXA scans to both measure bone mineral density and evaluate bone microarchitecture, according to the company.
Dual analysis allows clinicians to identify up to 30% more patients at high risk of fracture, even when bone density appears normal, the company said. DEXA with TBS is now available at over 80 SimonMed locations equipped with DEXA technology, SimonMed noted.
