Radiology components supplier Varex Imaging appointed Timothy Guertin to its board of directors effective September 2.
Guertin is the former CEO of Varian Medical Systems. During his more than 35 years with the company, he was not only the CEO but also held a number of senior management positions, including executive vice president, chief operating officer, and president of Varian's oncology business unit.
He is also a member of Teradyne's board of directors and chair of the Global Access to Cancer Care foundation. Guertin's appointment to Varex's board has pushed the number of directors to eight.
Varex was spun out of Varian in 2016 when the company's Imaging Components business was launched as an independent company.

![Representative example of a 16-year-old male patient with underlying X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy. (A, B) Paired anteroposterior (AP) chest radiograph and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) report shows lumbar spine (L1 through L4) areal bone mineral density (BMD). The DXA report was reformatted for anonymization and improved readability. The patient had low BMD (Z score ≤ −2.0). (C) Model (chest radiography [CXR]–BMD) output shows the predicted raw BMD and Z score in comparison with the DXA reference standard, together with interpretability analyses using Shapley additive explanations (SHAP) and gradient-weighted class activation maps. The patient was classified as having low BMD, consistent with the reference standard.
