The Organization for Occupational Radiation Safety in Interventional Fluoroscopy (ORSIF) has introduced a new documentary film on the risks of ionizing radiation exposure for physicians who practice interventional medicine in fluoroscopy labs.
The documentary, available on YouTube, presents the experience of heart surgeon Dr. Edward Diethrich, founder of the Arizona Heart Foundation. Diethrich has had several health issues directly linked to radiation exposure, including cataracts in both eyes; dense, calcific plaque in the carotid artery; and a brain tumor, according to ORSIF.
