C-arm developer Ziehm Imaging has adopted iterative reconstruction and adaptive image processing for its line of mobile C-arm imagers, which it plans to show at this year's RSNA meeting.
Vendors have been employing iterative reconstruction algorithms to dramatically reduce CT dose, and Ziehm said it is bringing the concept to mobile C-arms. The company has developed a specialized algorithm, Ziehm Iterative Reconstruction (ZIR), that minimizes fan and metal artifacts in 3D reconstructions of x-ray studies. A lower incidence of artifacts leads to more distinguishable anatomy, well-defined bone crests, and optimum slice views in various planes.
Ziehm Adaptive Image Processing (ZAIP) filters noise, enhances edges, and optimizes doses for its flat-panel detector C-arms designed for operating room (OR) use.
Ziehm will also feature a package solution for hybrid ORs; the company is offering OR tables from Stille, a manufacturer of carbon fiber interventional imaging tables, to complement its Ziehm Vision RFD Hybrid Edition.

![Representative example of a 16-year-old male patient with underlying X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy. (A, B) Paired anteroposterior (AP) chest radiograph and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) report shows lumbar spine (L1 through L4) areal bone mineral density (BMD). The DXA report was reformatted for anonymization and improved readability. The patient had low BMD (Z score ≤ −2.0). (C) Model (chest radiography [CXR]–BMD) output shows the predicted raw BMD and Z score in comparison with the DXA reference standard, together with interpretability analyses using Shapley additive explanations (SHAP) and gradient-weighted class activation maps. The patient was classified as having low BMD, consistent with the reference standard.
