This Burbank, CA, company will demonstrate its progress in commercializing its novel Dominion system, which uses an O-shaped gantry to acquire volumetric 3D images in real-time.
Dominion consists of the O-ring gantry mounted on a mobile cart, with a conebeam x-ray tube and flat-panel digital detector. The patient is placed inside the O and the imaging array rotates around the patient at speeds of 800 msec or 200 msec. The unit produces real-time 3D images that are radiotranslucent and that can be processed with standard 3D techniques.
Imaging3 believes Dominion could have applications in providing image guidance for surgical intervention, particular in orthopedics. Other applications could include vascular and cardiac imaging, digital radiography, and even mammography.
Imaging3 is putting the finishing touches on a prototype version and is planning to begin beta testing shortly, according to the company. The company hopes to apply for 510(k) clearance with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, with the system shipping to U.S. customers by the end of 2007.
