Canon Medical Systems launched its new Aquilion Start CT scanner this week at Arab Health 2019 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Aquilion Start features a small installation footprint and is designed for affordable total cost of ownership and operating costs, so more medical institutions and imaging centers can invest in CT, according to Canon.
For clinicians, intuitive controls and enhanced automation are designed for more fluid system operation, while advanced technologies improve patient safety, clinical decision-making, and workflow.
Aquilion Start includes Canon's PureVision detector, first introduced in the company's premium CT line, and the fourth-generation version of its iterative reconstruction protocol, Adaptive Iterative Dose Reduction (AIDR) 3D Enhanced. The scanner features a 78-cm bore width and 47-mm patient couch, which can be lowered to a height of 31.2 cm to make it easier to transfer patients from a wheelchair.

The CT image is shown in the axial plane. The PMV is automatically extracted using the developed deep learning model and overlayed onto the lungs for visual clarity.](https://img.auntminnie.com/mindful/smg/workspaces/default/uploads/2026/03/genkin.25LqljVF0y.jpg?auto=format%2Ccompress&crop=focalpoint&fit=crop&h=112&q=70&w=112)
