An estimated 62 million CT procedures have been performed in 7,650 U.S. hospital and nonhospital sites in 2006, according to a new report issued by market research and consulting firm IMV Medical Information Division of Des Plaines, IL.
The firm said that this represents a 24% increased from 50.1 million procedures it surveyed in 2003, for an average annualized rate of 8% per year over the period. IMV believes radiology departments and imaging centers are stepping up the pace of replacing installed base and adding capacity, according to IMV senior director of market research Lorna Young.
Going forward, the CT replacement market will range from 1,200 to 1,600 units per year over the next five years, and the total annual market will exceed 2,000 units, IMV said.
