Biliary-Pleural Fistula:

Clinical:

A biliary-pleural fistula is a rare complication of penetrating liver trauma, but it may also occur secondary to biliary obstruction, severe infection, or be congenital. The diagnosis can be confirmed by aspiration of bilious fluid from the pleural space, by demonstration of the fistulous tract during cholangiography, or with abnormal accumulation of radioisotope within the pleural space during hepatobiliary scintigraphy. Several weeks of percutaneous drainage are necessary for closure of the fistula.
