Dual-source CT edges into cardiac SPECT turf

U.S. researchers will use this week's European Congress of Radiology in Vienna to present research that shows dual-source CT making inroads into cardiac functional imaging, an area currently dominated by SPECT. The study moves dual-source coronary CT angiography closer to the holy grail of cardiac imaging -- a test that performs both morphological and functional analysis in a single scan.

Study: Picking US over MRI for MSK imaging could save billions

The U.S. could save up to $736 million annually -- and billions over the course of the next 15 years -- if physicians used ultrasound rather than MRI for musculoskeletal imaging when clinically indicated, according to researchers from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. They examined how much money could be saved if ultrasound were substituted for MRI for musculoskeletal imaging applications in which clinical evidence shows that ultrasound is at least comparable to MRI.
