Disparate VC results suggest 2D/3D debate isn't over
By
Eric Barnes
Two recent studies have given new life to an old rivalry: 2D versus 3D primary reading of virtual colonoscopy data. In the first, ACRIN 6664 researchers found no significant difference in sensitivity between the two reading methods. In the second study, however, researchers at the University of Wisconsin in Madison found that primary 3D reading on a single system produced substantially better outcomes compared to 2D reading.

'Patch view' may improve efficiency of VC CAD viewing
By
Erik L. Ridley

Unusual VC regimen a success in the elderly
By
Eric Barnes
CHICAGO - A virtual colonoscopy preparation consisting only of iodinated oral contrast got high marks for ease of use from the elderly, compared to cathartic bowel prep and failed optical colonoscopy that preceded the scans, in a new study from Italy. Significant findings at VC made the procedure worth the effort, researchers reported Tuesday at the RSNA 2007 meeting.

VC CAD beats human readers in multicenter trial data
By
Eric Barnes
Numerous computer-aided detection (CAD) studies have compared the colorectal polyp detection performance of human readers with and without the aid of CAD. But you'd be hard-pressed to find a standalone CAD study of virtual colonoscopy. Researchers from Massachusetts, however, recently compared the sensitivity of CAD with prospective VC readings from two large multicenter VC trials.
