Acuson ships first AcuNav catheter

Ultrasound vendor Acuson has begun shipments of its AcuNav intracardiac ultrasound catheter. The first recipient will be Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago.

AcuNav is mounted on a catheter that is inserted through the femoral vein of the leg, or the jugular vein in the neck. It is then maneuvered into the right atrium or right ventricle of the heart. At that point, high-quality diagnostic images and Doppler blood-flow information can be obtained throughout the heart, according to the Mountain View, CA-based firm.
