Hologic gets clearance for vertebral feature

Bone densitometry firm Hologic of Waltham, MA, has received 510(k) clearance for a new feature, instant vertebral assessment (IVA), on the company's Delphi QDR series densitometer.

IVA allows Delphi QDR users to conduct both standard bone-mineral density exams and vertebral fracture assessments with one machine, according to the company. Lateral x-rays are the gold standard for vertebral evaluation, but are underutilized due to patient inconvenience and concern over additional x-ray exposure, according to the company.
