Reassignment rule proposal offers mixed bag for imaging

The recently published 2007 proposal for the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) brings mostly bad news for diagnostic imaging as interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and radiology are faced with double-digit cuts in reimbursement. The one bright spot in this year's MPFS proposal is that CMS may finally be ready to tackle the issue of imaging self-referral via significant changes to the reassignment rule.
