The value of 3D/4D ultrasound | MICI outlook for Q4 | ER exasperates Andy

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

From its early days as a technology used mostly by early adopters, 3D/4D ultrasound has grown into a clinically useful tool that is finding application around the world.

That's according to a new article we're highlighting in our Ultrasound Community by Isabelle Wegmann Hachette, senior application manager for ultrasound at image enhancement software developer ContextVision. The article details the trends that are driving the proliferation of 3D/4D ultrasound, including the miniaturization of scanners and better image acquisition techniques.

The column goes on to highlight some of the major clinical advances that are being made in 3D/4D ultrasound, and it includes some amazing clinical images. Check it out by clicking here, or visit the community at ultrasound.auntminnie.com.

MICI outlook for Q4

Radiology administrators in the U.S. remain skeptical about their outlook for Medicare reimbursement in the fourth quarter of 2016, according to the latest numbers from the Medical Imaging Confidence Index (MICI).

A running poll of sentiment among radiology administrators and managers who are members of the AHRA, the association for medical imaging management, the MICI survey is designed to identify trends in radiology before they happen. MICI surveys are conducted by market research firm the MarkeTech Group.

As in past MICI polls, the fourth-quarter numbers show that optimism about Medicare reimbursement is at rock bottom, with confidence about having access to capital for imaging and IT purchases doing only slightly better.

If you've ever been frustrated by a request for imaging from the emergency room (ER), then you'll relate to this week's #MyRadGirlfriend cartoon. Andy becomes exasperated by the latest request from the ER -- but fortunately she has backup. Find out what happens by clicking here.
