Ultrasound MinnieCast, Episode 4: Imaging endometriosis with TVUS

Diagnosing endometriosis early can be challenging, with symptoms being non-specific and overlapping with other conditions.

With this in mind, it may be easier for women and some healthcare providers to dismiss symptoms as common menstrual pain.

In this episode, Scott Young, MD, from the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ discusses these challenges and how transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) could help with earlier diagnosis. Young in 2024 co-authored a consensus statement for the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound (SRU) that outlines recommendations for routine pelvic ultrasound exams for imaging endometriosis.

Scott Young, MD, talks about feedback he and colleagues received after having consensus recommendations published on imaging endometriosis with ultrasound.

Young also talks about recent advances in this area and the need for standardization in training. He also discusses why laparoscopy alone should no longer be considered the diagnostic gold standard in diagnosing endometriosis.
