Studies link MolecuLight imaging to wound graft success rates

MolecuLight is highlighting two studies that used the company's fluorescent imaging technology in wound care.

The studies, published in Wound Repair and Regeneration Journal and Diagnostics Journal, have found that the presence or absence of bacterial fluorescence detected by MolecuLight imaging before cellular and/or acellular matrix product (CAMP) placement is strongly tied to treatment success in wound care.

In the first study, dermal regeneration template achieved success rates of 85.6% in fluorescence-negative wound regions compared with 14.4% in fluorescence-positive regions in acute trauma wounds with exposed bone or tendon. In the second study, diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers with bacterial fluorescence prior to CAMP placement showed an average increase in wound area at four weeks, while wounds without bacterial fluorescence demonstrated more than a 40% reduction in wound area at four weeks.

Both studies support the use of MolecuLight fluorescence imaging to assess bacterial burden during wound bed preparation before advanced wound therapy placement, according to the company.
