Fuji launches digital mammo CAD in Japan

Fujifilm Medical Systems of Tokyo has introduced computed-aided detection (CAD) software for use with its computed radiography-based digital mammography system in Japan, according to a report in Japan Corporate News Network.

Fuji has developed a proprietary detection algorithm that improves detection rates for microcalcifications and masses for Japanese women.

Because the Japanese government has set a goal of a cancer screening rate of 50%, the country anticipates an increase in the volume of x-rays requiring physician interpretation. Fuji expects that CAD will prove beneficial in the resulting expanded workload.
