Siemens unveils Artiste

Siemens Medical Solutions Oncology Care Systems has debuted Artiste, an integrated dose-guided radiation therapy (DGRT) system, at this week's annual meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) in Atlanta. Employing the Malvern, PA-based vendor's In-Line technology, Siemens' DGRT concept considers anatomy and dosimetric changes into the treatment protocol, the firm said.

DGRT relies upon information about the tumor shape and treatment dose in order to adapt treatment, according to the vendor. Artiste is the company's first system to utilize the DGRT concept, Siemens said.

It provides both kilovoltage (kV) and megavoltage (MV) imaging capabilities by providing a separate radiation source and imaging panel for each energy range, according to the firm. The sources and imaging panels are arranged 180° from each other, allowing for simultaneous imaging and treatment, Siemens said.
