Positron shows IS2 camera after acquisition

At the Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM) show in San Diego, PET camera manufacturer Positron demonstrated a gamma camera from IS2 Medical Systems, the result of the Houston company's acquisition of IS2 just prior to the start of the SNM meeting.

Positron plans to leverage the assets of IS2 to help it push into cardiologists' office with a low-cost dedicated cardiac PET camera currently under development that will carry a list price equivalent to a SPECT system, according to Joseph Oliviero, president of Positron. Positron plans to launch the new line in early 2007, Oliviero said.

In buying IS2 Medical Systems, Positron gains access to the Pulse CDC gamma camera.

IS2 has been concentrating on the cardiologist office market with its Pulse CDC fixed 90° dual-head gamma camera, a low-cost system with a compact design well-suited to cardiologist offices. Positron will gain access to IS2's 25 employees, including sales and service personnel, as well as the Canadian company's manufacturing facilities. Positron will continue to sell Pulse CDC and other gamma cameras in the IS2 portfolio as it develops its new PET product line.
