IsoRay opens new production facility

Medical isotope developer IsoRay will begin producing cesium-131 seeds for brachytherapy use in the treatment of prostate cancer this month at its new 4,000-sq-ft production facility.

The plant, located at the company's headquarters in Richland, WA, could manufacture as many as 60,000 radioactive seeds per month, with a significant increase in staffing and availability of a sufficient amount of cesium-131 for manufacture, IsoRay said. That amount would be 10 times IsoRay Medical's current capacity, the firm said.
