The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted 510(k) clearance to Lantheus Holdings, parent company of Lantheus Medical Imaging, for its artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled automated bone scan index (aBSI) software on GE Healthcare's Xeleris nuclear medicine workstation.

The vendor-neutral software quantifies and manages disease progression in advanced prostate cancer patients with the potential to support critical clinical decisions, the firm said. It automatically detects hotspots in bones indicative of metastatic disease and calculates the aBSI.

Lantheus said it will continue to develop AI software.
