The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) is highlighting growth of the impact factor for its Journal of Nuclear Medicine, which is again among the top-ranked worldwide medical imaging journals based on Clarivate Analytics' 2017 "Journal Citation Reports."

The monthly publication achieved an impact factor of 7.44 last year, representing a 12% increase from 6.65 in 2016, according to the SNMMI. This placed JNM as fifth highest in terms of impact factor among 128 journals included in the medical imaging category.

JNM's five-year impact factor was 6.89 last year, compared with a five-year mark of 6.46 in 2016.

Clarivate Analytics measures a journal's impact based on the number of article citations versus the total number of articles published. The quantitative measure calculates the frequency with which an article in a journal is cited, and it is used to gauge the overall influence of a journal within scientific, professional, and academic communities.
