Imaging artificial intelligence (AI) software developer Enlitic has received a contract from the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit to pilot its imaging AI software at select Defense Health Agency (DHA) and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical treatment facilities (MTFs).

Under the award, Enlitic's technology will be implemented at several MTFs over a two-year period, with its platform, products, and select algorithms integrated directly into onsite and national cloud infrastructure, including enterprise-level hospital information systems and PACS, according to the vendor. After these initial implementations have been completed, Enlitic, the DHA, and the VA will conduct clinical studies to evaluate the impact of the technologies on diagnostic quality and efficiency, Enlitic said.

Enlitic said it will perform a comprehensive assessment of the readiness of the DHA and VA for medical imaging AI, as well as provide customized training for DHA and VA physicians and staff. In addition, Enlitic said it will facilitate steps towards using anonymized DHA and VA medical data together with its algorithm development tools, enabling deployment of new AI algorithms. Success will be monitored throughout the project to inform potential future rollouts at other U.S. government MTFs, according to the company.
