New Philips DR features home-grown detector

Philips Healthcare of Andover, MA, launched a new compact digital radiography (DR) system at last week's European Congress of Radiology in Vienna. The unit is the first digital x-ray system from the company to feature an internally developed digital detector.

Essenta DR Compact is a U-arm-based DR system designed for mid-sized hospitals, imaging centers, and private and orthopedic clinics. The product is based on the company's Eleva digital x-ray platform, and is the first product to incorporate Philips' QuantMaster 3543 RG digital detector, which uses lead-free PCBs and features low power consumption.

The company said that by offering its own detector Philips has greater control over the final cost of the overall product, making it more attractive to potential customers in both developed and emerging markets. For its previous digital x-ray products, Philips procured digital detectors from Trixell of Moirans, France.

Essenta DR Compact is available for sale in Europe and Asia, excluding China. It is not available for sale in North America.
