U-Systems to initiate breast US study

Breast ultrasound systems developer U-Systems of San Jose, CA, plans to conduct a multicenter breast cancer screening study named somo-InSIGHT, using its proprietary automated breast ultrasound system (ABUS).

The clinical study, anticipated to include more than 20,000 women, will evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of x-ray mammography and ABUS together compared to mammography alone as a breast cancer screening method in women with more than 50% parenchymal density.

Dr. Rachel Brem, director of the Breast Imaging and Interventional Center at George Washington University in Washington, DC, will be the principal investigator for the study.
