Philips completes Zambia installation

Royal Philips Electronics, the parent company of Philips Healthcare of Andover, MA, has completed the installation phase of a seven-year healthcare infrastructure modernization project in the Republic of Zambia, the company reported.

The $38.7 million (25 million euros) international development initiative is being sponsored by the Dutch and Zambian governments and began in 2002. It includes training of more than 200 local hospital staff and the installation of mobile x-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and dental treatment diagnostic imaging equipment.

Philips will maintain the equipment it has installed with its partner Fontys, an education provider that will train a local workforce of radiologists, laboratory technicians, nurses, midwives, and other medical staff, Philips said.
