Multimodality vendor Siemens Healthcare is showcasing its portfolio of existing oncology products at this week's American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting, while also highlighting developments in process.
The central component on display is the Artiste linear accelerator for adaptive radiation therapy (ART), featuring the 550 TxT treatment table that offers accuracy and stability while providing mechanical strength to accommodate a patient weight capacity of up to 550 lb, according to the Malvern, PA-based firm. Treatment planning components to provide intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) using the 160 MLC Artiste are in the booth as well.
Siemens is also highlighting developments that include In-Line kView imaging that delivers image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) with one beam, one source, and one detector for kV-like conebeam image quality. The development is being shown as a work-in-progress that requires 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Meanwhile, IM-RealART is a real-time adaptive therapy package that combines Siemens' CTVision system with the Prowess RealART treatment planning system. It's designed for immediate replanning with IGRT and offers diagnostic-quality and in-room imaging.
The PreScision Stereotactic Solution combines the Oncor and Artiste linacs with the 550 TxT treatment table, with a variety of beam-shaping devices and an array of stereotactic apparatus and patient fixation devices for radiosurgery. It is considered a work-in-progress.
Siemens will show the entire Biograph TruePoint PET/CT family of scanners with enhanced contrast time-of-flight technology.
