Eckert & Ziegler, IBt consolidate brachytherapy units

Radiotherapy and radioisotope developer Eckert & Ziegler Isotope Products of Berlin has signed a letter of intent with Belgian medical device company International Brachytherapy (IBt) to consolidate their respective implant businesses.

Eckert & Ziegler will transfer the shares of its subsidiary Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG, which includes the implant business, to IBt. The agreement also gives IBt the option to later purchase the remainder of Eckert & Ziegler's therapy business.

Eckert & Ziegler's implant business in 2007 had revenues of approximately 10 million euros ($14.6 million U.S.) in 2007.
