BrainLab wins patent suit

Image-guided surgery firm BrainLab said that the U.S. District Court in Denver has dismissed a patent infringement lawsuit filed against the firm in 1998 by Medtronic of Minneapolis.

The court ruled that BrainLab’s image-guided surgery/radiotherapy products do not infringe any of the patents in the suit, according to BrainLab of Munich, Germany.

The ruling sets aside a September 2005 verdict by a Denver jury, which found that BrainLab had infringed four patents held or licensed by Medtronic, and precludes the injunction Medtronic had been seeking.
