GE gets clearance for wide-bore MR scanner

GE Healthcare has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for Optima MR450w, a 70-cm 1.5-tesla MR scanner.

Designed to accommodate patients who are obese or claustrophobic, MR450w is built on a fully redesigned MR platform of its Discovery MR750 system, according to the Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.-based vendor. It features a 50-cm field-of-view and can perform two-station spine imaging with multiple contrasts, GE said.

In addition, GE said the system is clinically optimized for specific anatomies, including breast imaging. Other features include a new 145-cm-long magnet, GE's eXtreme gradients for 34-millitesla/meter amplitude and 150-tesla/meter/second slew rate on each axis, GE's OpTix radiofrequency digital receiver, anatomy-optimized radiofrequency coils, and an Express removable patient table.
