Biophan inks R&D deal with FDA

MRI-compatible device firm Biophan Technologies has cemented an R&D partnership with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to study patient safety in MRI environments.

Under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) between the parties, Biophan will collaborate with the FDA's science and engineering laboratories in the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) to help develop guidelines and standards for assessing the safety of cardiac pacemaker and neurostimulation leads used in MRI suites.

The CRADA could lead to a variety of products for the healthcare industry, including a new generation of MRI-safe medical devices, enhancements to currently existing medical devices to improve MRI safety, and either new or modified MRI technologies to enhance the safety of scanners.
