Philips hits MR milestone

Philips Medical Systems has completed the 100th global installation of its Achieva 3-tesla whole-body MRI scanner.

The milestone system was installed in late 2004 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. It's being used for advanced clinical applications and research projects, including neurological applications such as functional MR and cardiovascular, body, and pediatric applications, according to the Andover, MA-based vendor.

The University of Michigan will be installing three more Philips MR scanners, including a second Achieva 3-tesla unit and two Achieva 1.5-tesla systems, Philips said.
