TORONTO - Philips Healthcare of Andover, MA, launched a new SPECT camera, as well as the latest generation of its time-of-flight PET technology, at this week's SNM meeting.
BrightView X is a midrange SPECT camera that can be upgraded later to the firm's BrightView XCT SPECT/CT system, the company said. The upgrade can be made without changing the room size or power requirements, the company said.
Philips is also touting orthopedics applications with BrightView XCT, such as the scanner's ability to image hairline fractures with high spatial resolution, according to the company. Philips has also made upgrades to BrightView XCT's Extended Brilliance Workstation that allow SPECT, PET, and CT studies to be viewed on the same platform.
On the PET side, Philips is enhancing its Gemini TF PET/CT scanner with the third generation of its time-of-flight technology. Time-of-flight technology measures the time difference between the detection of coincident gamma rays for more accurate localization, according to the company; this produces better-quality images and allows for lower tracer dose amounts in patients and shorter imaging times. Philips said that it has broken the 500 picosecond barrier with the technology.
