Siemens Medical Solutions is introducing a new preclinical imaging product, Inveon, at next week's Academy of Molecular Imaging (AMI) meeting in Orlando, FL.
Inveon is a multimodality imaging system with a comprehensive suite of preclinical analysis applications, according to the Malvern, PA-based Siemens. The system enables unified control of PET, SPECT, and CT data acquisition, the company said.
It features multipinhole SPECT collimators for improved sensitivity and spatial resolution; new PET and SPECT acquisition and processing technology; and a PET transmission method that results in faster and more accurate attenuation correction, Siemens said.
The modular system allows for a dedicated PET module that can be used as a standalone, high-performance small-animal imaging system, or docked onto a gantry that houses CT or SPECT modules. When in the docked configuration, the system can operate independently or as a single unit under the control of one workstation.
The product's integrated and modular configurations are customizable to specific needs, optimizing throughput and making PET/CT, CT/SPECT, or PET/CT/SPECT configurations possible, according to the company.
In addition to Inveon, Siemens will introduce a new 40-slice configuration of its Biograph family of PET/CT systems. The vendor will now offer PET/CT devices in two-, six-, 16-, 40-, and 64-slice configurations.
