March 1, 2019 -- U.K. start-up Kheiron Medical Technologies has launched Mia, its artificial intelligence (AI) software for breast cancer screening.

Mia, short for mammography intelligent assessment, is capable of analyzing the digital mammograms of patients with suspected breast cancer. In a prior clinical validation study, Mia surpassed the standard for single radiologist reporting of breast cancer -- showing that the software may help reduce errors in breast cancer detection, according to the company.

Kheiron received the CE Mark for Mia last year, and it plans to conduct additional clinical trials to evaluate the software's performance and potential impact on breast screening outcomes.
