Kodak of Rochester, NY, is planning to debut a ceiling-mounted U-arm, DirectView DR 9500, that places both the x-ray tube and detector on the U-arm for additional imaging flexibility.

DR 9500 moves around the patient, allowing technologists to capture images of the left and right side of the body without moving the patient. The system includes two operator interfaces on the U-arm, so technologists can control the x-ray generator and change parameters without leaving the patient or exam room.

Patient data from a radiology or hospital information system can be transferred via the DICOM work list protocol to the system's operator console, as well as to the operator interfaces on the U-arm. With the push of a button, autopositioning enables the equipment to move into the preprogrammed position for the next exam, according to Kodak.

The DR 9500 system is scheduled to be available worldwide in the second quarter of 2007.
