(Booth 5529) GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., will lead its molecular imaging offerings with its new Discovery PET/CT 600 system at RSNA 2008.

Discovery PET/CT 600 features bismuth germanate crystals, advanced motion management techniques, Vue Point HD (high-definition) imaging, wide-view imaging for PET and CT, and faster reconstruction. The hybrid system also offers a 70-cm bore with 70-cm full field-of-view imaging, in addition to BladeCenter-powered reconstruction capabilities from IBM of Armonk, NY.

2008 10 23 16 40 11 919 Ge Mol 2008The most applicable uses for the Discovery PET/CT 600 are in oncology, neurology, and cardiology. The system has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and will be available in December.

GE also will show exclusive technologies on its Discovery Dimension workstation, including high-definition PET image processing, patient motion management, and clinical productivity features. The features are designed to address patient motion, which can degrade lesion characterization.

The newest version of Discovery Dimension is designed to help clinicians perform motion-free PET/CT imaging by allowing them to address imaging mismatches related to respiratory and cardiac motion.

GE's Vue Point is designed to improve small lesion detectability, clinical confidence, and exam productivity. Available on the Discovery Dimension with new installations or by Continuum field upgrades for installed Discovery ST systems, clinicians can perform advanced PET image generation for enhanced qualitative and quantitative accuracy.

Vue Point incorporates proprietary image reconstruction algorithms, including volume scatter correction and a patented image projection mode. Vue Point is applicable to both 2D and 3D PET acquisition modes.
