ADAC announces record PET sales

In a sure sign of PET's continuing resurgence, ADAC Laboratories of Milpitas, CA, announced that it has received orders for a record 10 of its C-PET units during the first fiscal quarter of the year (end-January 2).

The company said the orders came from major research centers in Europe and the U.S., including Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO, and Radiation Medicine Specialists in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

PET's growth over the past two years has been driven by the Health Care Financing Administration's decision to approve Medicare reimbursement for PET scans for a number of indications, including lung and colorectal cancer.

In an effort to improve its position in PET, ADAC acquired UGM Medical Systems, a leading developer and manufacturer of PET equipment, in October 1999. ADAC-UGM is now the main R&D and manufacturing center for ADAC's dedicated PET products, according to ADAC.
