Watpac to build Aussie Mo-99 facility

Watpac has been awarded an $83 million contract to design and construct a molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) facility in Lucas Heights, New South Wales.

The new facility will supply the Mo-99 radioisotope throughout Australia and overseas. Design work is scheduled to begin next month, with construction scheduled for completion in early 2016.

The contract was issued by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO), which has been producing Mo-99 for about 40 years and provides approximately 500,000 doses annually.
